Their home region of Alentejo is often called the bread basket of Portugal, but it has quickly earned a reputation as one of the country's absolute best regions for smooth, fruit-driven red wines. While this part of southern Portugal is famous for its scorching, dry summers where temperatures regularly hit a blistering 45°C, Alison and Joaquim chose a specific, elevated location to ensure their grapes never bake in the heat.

The secret to Azamor's signature freshness is this high-altitude position, sitting 350 metres above sea level on steep, stony slopes. The breezy mountain air cools the vines down overnight, slowing the ripening process perfectly. These are some of the most densely planted vineyards in the area, meaning the vines have to compete hard for water and nutrients in the clay and schist soils. This natural struggle keeps grape yields very low, resulting in small berries that are packed with an incredible concentration of rich, deep flavor.

Alison and Joaquim cultivate a fascinating mix of traditional Portuguese grapes—like Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, and Trincadeira—alongside famous international varieties including Syrah and Merlot. By blending these together, they create remarkably smooth, full-bodied red wines that remain beautifully elegant rather than heavy. Expect a glass filled with juicy dark plums, ripe blackberries, and a gentle hint of sweet spice. These rich, warming flavours make the entire range a fantastic match for slow-cooked beef stews, grilled lamb skewers from the barbecue, or a hearty Sunday roast.

AZAMOR

Azamor is a velvety blend of Portuguese and classic varietals made exclusively from estate grown fruit and hand selected grapes grown in the Vila Viçosa region.
