Port Phillip Estate is owned and operated by the Gjergja family, who also own Kooyong Estate. The property is situated at Red Hill in the heart of the beautiful Mornington Peninsula wine region 80 kilometres south of Melbourne, Victoria.

The winery emerges from the landscape as a dramatic curved sculpture made of rammed earth. Tim Perrin worked as senior winemaker at Oakridge in Yarra Valley before joining Port Phillip in early 2023. The focus here is on wild fermented Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and some Syrah. Informed by the principles of agro-ecology and permaculture, Port Phillip employ a sustainable farming system that places focus on the improvement of soil biology through the use of compost teas, estate-produced compost, mulch, and other natural soil and plant conditioners. Similarly, their practices in the winery are minimalist. The winery is designed to promote movement of fruit and wine via gravity flow, avoiding the use of pump.

Quartier means neighbourhood in French and the Port Phillip Estate 'Quartier' wines are a celebration of the diverse terroirs to be found on the Mornington Peninsula. At the winery the fruit was gently whole-bunch pressed directly into all old French oak oak, where fermentation commenced spontaneously with ambient yeasts. Following fermentation, the wine was aged on lees (without battonage) for ten months. The wine was then bottled without fining and with minimal filtration. The Kooyong 'Beurrot' Pinot Gris displays classic aromas of fresh pear, pink lady apple and subtle citrus, with secondary notes of freshly picked spice and white florals providing complexity. The palate is bright and fresh with flavours of pear, apple and a hint of grapefruit. A creamy mid-palate sweetness from the barrel fermentation and time on lees provides additional layers and texture. The wine has a bright line of acidity that drives the wine from start to finish.
