The Gimblett Gravels, located on the former bed of the Ngaruroro River, is a highly sought-after sub-region renowned for the quality of its wines, particularly those made from Syrah and Trinity Hill was one of the first to plant here in 1993. Since 2005, “The Gimblett” has typically been a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Malbec, in varying proportions, depending on the strengths of the vintage. Thanks to a warm growing season this vintage is made almost entirely from the Cabernet family - Cabernet Sauvignon (54%), Cabernet Franc (43%) and Tempranillo (3%). Each variety and vineyard was harvested and vinified separately and then matured in 100% new 225 litre French oak barrels for 15 months, before being blended together and then returned to the same barrels for a further six months maturation. After a total of 21 months in barrel, the wine was re-assembled, filtered and bottled. Deep purple in colour, this wine boasts aromas of blackberries along with savoury hints of bramble, fresh cedar, liquorice, vanilla and toast.
