The brothers acquired 17,400 hectares and planted two grape varieties at the time - black cluster and sweet water. In 1850, the site was sold to a Swiss-French immigrant, Paul de Castella. He increased the vineyard by a further 20 hectares, sourcing vines from around the globe including some from Chateau Lafite. In 1859, de Castella built the Old Winery to house his winemaking equipment. In the mid-1800s, other Yering Station signatures were established, from the grand avenue of Elm trees to the historic Heritage Barn.

Each symbol shines as a testament of the centuries-long journey of Yering Station. Almost 200 years on, Yering Station flourishes and they have become an icon of the region. Grapes for the "Little Yering" Pinot Noir come from a combination of estate-grown grapes planted in vineyards in Yarra Glen, Yering and Coldstream and additional grower fruit that comes from a very cold site in Mount Alexander. Little Yering Pinot Noir was made in a soft and approachable style. The grapes were fermented in a combination of open fermenters at controlled temperatures using selected yeasts to retain the purity and freshness of the cool-climate fruit. Following fermentation, the wine was matured in stainless steel tanks to retain the pure Pinot Noir characters. An additional portion comes from Heathcote to help build a lovely chocolate complexity to the fruit. The cooler sites allow for excellent diurnal temperature shifts, which imbues the fruit with intense aromatics and natural, refreshing acidity. At the winery, following fermentation, the wine underwent malolactic conversion and was matured for 18 months in seasoned French oak 500-litre puncheons and 228-litre barriques of which 10% were new.
