The Montagne de Reims is a massive, heavily forested plateau that forms a dramatic, north-facing crescent between the cities of Reims and Épernay. Unlike the flat, powdery white chalk zones found further south, this landscape features deep chalk layers topped with thick accumulations of nutrient-rich clay. This specific geological blend creates an ideal environment for Pinot Noir, which rules completely supreme across these rolling slopes. The combination of a cooler, north-facing aspect and deep, mineral-rich clay forces the vines to work harder, yielding grapes with immense physical substance, structural power, and a rich, robust flavor profile.
