Ribera del Duero is the home of Spain's most powerful, brooding, and iconic red wines. While Rioja is often described as the "Velvet Glove" of Spanish wine, Ribera is the "Iron Fist."
Forged in the extreme climate of the Castilla y León plateau - where scorching summers meet freezing winters the Tempranillo grape (known locally as Tinto Fino) develops a thicker skin and richer fruit profile. The result is a wine of immense structure, deep colour, and complex notes of dark cherry, leather, and roasted coffee.
This region is the birthplace of legends. It is here that Vega Sicilia, Spain's "First Growth," established the benchmark for greatness. Today, a new generation of cult wineries including Bodegas Aalto, Pingus, and Hacienda Monasterio are pushing the boundaries even further, creating wines that rival the finest Grand Crus of Bordeaux.
