ANDALUCÍA

Andalucía is a region steeped in history, located at the sun-baked southern tip of Spain where the Atlantic meets the Mediterranean. This is the traditional home of some of the most unique and celebrated wines in the world. With its dazzling white "Albariza" limestone soils and intense heat, the landscape is perfectly suited to producing wines with incredible depth, power, and a distinct sense of place.

The region is most famous for its extraordinary fortified wines, particularly Sherry. Centred around the "Sherry Triangle" of Jerez de la Frontera, Sanlúcar de Barrameda, and El Puerto de Santa María, these wines range from the bone-dry, salty freshness of Fino and Manzanilla to the rich, mahogany depths of Oloroso. Just inland, the region of Montilla-Moriles produces similar, luscious dessert-style wines, primarily using the Pedro Ximénez grape, which are world-renowned for their velvety texture and notes of dried figs and raisins.

Beyond the world of fortified wines, Andalucía is currently undergoing an exciting revival of "still" winemaking. In the rugged mountains of Málaga and the coastal hills near Cádiz, a new generation of winemakers is producing vibrant, modern red wines and crisp, mineral-driven whites. These wines capture the warmth of the southern sun while maintaining a surprising elegance. Whether you are exploring the complex layers of a historic Sherry or a bold, contemporary southern red, Andalucía offers a truly unique chapter in the story of Spanish wine.
