PROSECCO

Rooted in the picturesque vineyards of North East Italy, the Prosecco region encompasses a large area spanning Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia. This globally adored Italian sparkling wine is crafted primarily from the native Glera grape. The permitted DOC and prestigious DOCG areas—such as the terraced hills of Conegliano Valdobbiadene and Asolo—allow the grapes to develop complex aromas. In the historic heart of Conegliano Valdobbiadene, the steep terrain makes mechanized work impossible, meaning most vineyard tasks are performed entirely by hand. Today, a dedicated core of artisan producers is elevating this classic wine, focusing on meticulous vineyard management and exceptional terroir to deliver remarkable, expressive bottles.

The hallmark of these lively wines lies in the Charmat method, where the secondary fermentation takes place in large stainless steel tanks. This carefully monitored technique is chosen specifically to preserve the delicate, aromatic purity of the Glera grape, yielding a bright, fruit-driven wine that brings to mind yellow apple, pear, white peach, and apricot. Recently, the region has taken a thrilling new direction by championing vintage-dated, or Millesimato, releases. This focus on premium quality is especially prominent in the 31 'Rive' frazioni and the renowned 108-hectare Cartizze hill, where terroir shines brightest. Furthermore, the official introduction of Prosecco Rosé mandates that these elegant pink sparkling wines - blended with Pinot Noir - must be labeled by a single vintage to reflect the unique characteristics of a specific harvest year.

Beyond its history as a staple of Venetian hospitality and the legendary Bellini cocktail (a refreshing mix of sparkling wine and fresh peach purée), modern Prosecco is a celebration of site-specific craftsmanship. By keeping the wine on the lees in tank for several months and focusing on vintage and single-vineyard releases, independent estates are producing sophisticated, elegantly textured wines. Offering brilliant value and immediate drinking pleasure, these meticulously crafted bottles showcase the premium Mediterranean lifestyle, proving that authentic Italian bubbles offer serious depth, complexity, and joy in every glass.
