Furmint is one of the most underrated grape varieties in the world. For centuries, it was known only as the engine behind the "King of Wines" - the legendary sweet Tokaji Aszú. But in recent years, a revolution has taken hold.
Today, Furmint is proving it can do what Chablis and Chenin Blanc do - only with more volcanic energy in its 'Dry Revolution'. Stripped of sugar, Furmint is electric. Expect laser-like acidity, notes of quince and pear, and a distinct "salty" minerality from the volcanic soils. Look for Oremus Mandolás (the Vega Sicilia project) and the single-vineyard precision of Barta. And yes, we have the icons. The 5 and 6 Puttonyos Aszú from Dobogó and Oremus remain the benchmark for complex, age-worthy sweet wines.
Whether you want a razor-sharp starter or a finish that lasts for decades, this is Furmint in all its guises.
