THE MEDITERRANEAN COAST

The Mediterranean Coast of Spain is a vast and sun-drenched wine region stretching from the French border down to Andalucía. This beautiful coastline is home to an incredible variety of landscapes, from the rugged, rocky hills of Catalunya to the wide, fertile plains of Valencia. The warm waters of the Mediterranean regulate the climate, providing perfect conditions for a huge range of different grape varieties to thrive.

This region is the world’s heartland for Spanish sparkling wine, traditionally known as Cava. However, the landscape here has evolved recently, with many top-tier winemakers moving toward new, more rigorous quality standards that focus heavily on organic farming and the unique soils of the Penedès heartland. These premium sparkling wines, made using the traditional method and local grapes like Xarel·lo, are crisp, complex, and full of bright Mediterranean character, representing a significant step up in quality and regional pride.

Further inland and perched on steep, volcanic slopes, you will find the prestigious wines of Priorat. These are some of Spain’s most intense red wines, crafted from old-vine Garnacha and Cariñena. They are famous for their deep, dark fruit flavours and a unique mineral character that comes from the local black slate soils. From these world-class reds to the easy-going, sun-soaked whites of the south, the Mediterranean Coast offers a vibrant collection of wines that perfectly capture the spirit of the Spanish seaside.
