In the cooler, clay soils of Kumeu, you will find some of the finest Chardonnay in the southern hemisphere. These wines are celebrated for their elegance and mineral edge, often compared to the greats of Burgundy. Meanwhile, a short ferry ride away on Waiheke Island, the warmer, drier conditions are perfect for producing concentrated and sophisticated red wines. Here, Syrah and Bordeaux-style blends (Cabernet and Merlot) thrive, resulting in deep, complex wines that are a favourite for collectors.
