Birgit Eichinger Kamptal in Austria

Birgit Eichinger established her eponymous estate in 1992 after successfully experimenting with a small plot of vines inherited from her parents' business. Today, the winery is a celebrated fixture in the Kamptal region of Austria, standing at the picturesque foot of the Gaisberg mountain. The estate has steadily expanded from its original 3.5 hectares to encompass over 9 hectares of prime vineyard land, securing access to some of the finest traditional sites in the Strass area. This unique terroir provides the perfect foundation for producing highly aromatic, mineral-driven white wines that perfectly capture the cool-climate essence of the region.

The winemaking philosophy revolves around an ultramodern cellar equipped with temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, allowing the team to work with absolute precision. A major focus is placed on ensuring the pristine purity of the must prior to fermentation, which is crucial for retaining the crisp, clean varietal character of the grapes. While the majority of the production celebrates this unhindered freshness, select parcels of Grüner Veltliner are carefully aged in wooden barriques depending on the specific vintage conditions. This adaptable approach gives everyday drinkers a fascinating choice between bright, zesty expressions and richer, more textured styles that develop beautifully over time.

The resulting portfolio is widely recognised for delivering Austrian white wine that perfectly mirrors the personal character of Birgit herself: highly elegant, deeply expressive, and full of distinct personality. The signature Grüner Veltliner offerings showcase the classic regional hallmarks of crisp green apple, white peach, and a signature twist of white pepper on the finish. It is a beautifully crafted range that perfectly balances modern technical precision with authentic regional charm, making these bottles exceptional companions for light seafood dishes, spiced Asian cuisine, or simply enjoying as a sophisticated aperitif.
