Bodega Norton | Mendoza

Bodega Norton is a profoundly historic estate that has played a pivotal role in shaping the modern identity of Argentine winemaking. The estate was founded in 1895 by Edmund James Palmer Norton, an English railway engineer who was instantly captivated by the viticultural potential of the Andes foothills while working on the new Buenos Aires to Mendoza railway. He famously planted some of the very first vines in the celebrated Luján de Cuyo district, laying the groundwork for a legendary regional industry. Almost a century later, in 1989, Austrian visionary Gernot Langes-Swarovski recognised that same unique magic, acquiring the property and heavily investing in its cellars to transform it into the globally renowned powerhouse it is today.
The defining secret behind the exceptional quality of these wines is the extreme high-altitude environment of Mendoza. Situated between 900 and 1,100 metres above sea level, the vineyards benefit from a drastic diurnal temperature shift, where intensely hot, sun-drenched days are rapidly cooled by freezing mountain air rolling off the Andes at night. This extended hang-time, combined with intense ultraviolet light exposure, forces the grape skins to thicken, locking in brilliant natural acidity and creating highly concentrated fruit. By expertly managing these distinct microclimates, the winemaking team crafts an immensely food-friendly portfolio that perfectly balances immense power with elegant structure.
The collection provides a fantastic commercial showcase of premium Argentine wine, delivering immediate pleasure and remarkable value for the everyday drinker. The red wine selection is naturally headlined by world-class Mendoza Malbec alongside Cabernet Sauvignon, offering deeply structured, velvety profiles bursting with dark plum, ripe blackberry, and subtle sweet spice. Complementing these robust reds are remarkably fresh white expressions that completely bypass heavy, cloying textures. Instead, the white wines deliver vibrant, zesty flavours packed with crisp orchard fruit and refreshing mineral tension. It is a highly reliable, beautifully crafted range that perfectly captures the dramatic, mountainous spirit of South America.
