Borja Pérez has firmly established himself as a leading light in the Canary Island wine scene, breathing new life into the dramatic landscape of Tenerife's north-west coast. After stepping away from a career as a racing car mechanic to take over his family's historic estate, he made the pivotal decision to stop selling off the harvest and start bottling his own expressions. His focus centers on resurrecting ancient, ungrafted vineyards and championing traditional local grape varieties like Listán Blanco, Listán Negro, and Marmajuelo. This tireless dedication to the land has earned him a stellar reputation as one of the most talented viticulturists on the island.
The estate is situated within the unique Ycoden-Daute-Isora appellation, where vineyards are shaped by intense volcanic soils and a demanding maritime climate. Plots cascade from low coastal slopes up to striking elevations of 1,400 metres, heavily influenced by the cool, humid winds of the Atlantic Ocean. This constant coastal airflow allows the grapes to ripen slowly, preserving a vibrant, crisp acidity that balances the natural power of the volcanic terroir.
In the winery, the approach is entirely hands-off, allowing the rugged character of Tenerife to speak clearly in the glass. The white wines are remarkably savory and mineral-driven with a distinct, smoky complexity reminiscent of premium Burgundy, while the reds offer wild, peppery notes of mountain thyme and deep fruit. By using only large, neutral French oak barrels, the wines age gracefully without ever being overpowered by oak flavors, resulting in an authentic, high-energy collection perfect for everyday drinkers looking for something truly extraordinary.
