Cantele Vineyards in Puglia, Southern Italy

Relocating from northern Italy in the late 1950s, Giovanni Battista and his wife Teresa Manara immediately recognised the viticultural potential of the Salento peninsula in Puglia. Today, the Cantele estate is guided by the vibrant energy of the third generation, who proudly continue their grandparents' legacy across 50 hectares of dedicated vineyards.

Situated in the deep south, the vines benefit from a distinctly Mediterranean climate. Long, intensely sunny days are perfectly moderated by cooling maritime breezes sweeping in from both the Adriatic and Ionian seas. This coastal influence allows local and historical grape varieties, such as Primitivo, Negroamaro, Fiano, and Bombino, to thrive, resulting in deeply flavoured, ripe, and beautifully balanced southern Italian wines that speak clearly of their origins.

Beyond the glass, the family is deeply committed to advancing regional quality through dedicated scientific research. By isolating indigenous Negroamaro yeast strains and studying complex sensory impacts in the cellar, they consistently push the boundaries of winemaking. This meticulous attention to detail extends directly into the vineyards, where the estate has eliminated pesticides and herbicides, focusing instead on sustainable practices to navigate the future impacts of global warming.
