The Cape South Coast is South Africa’s premier cool-climate frontier. Stretching along the rugged shoreline where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet, the vineyards here are constantly refreshed by invigorating sea breezes. This natural "air-conditioning" allows for a much longer, slower ripening season, which helps the grapes retain their brilliant natural acidity and develop remarkably complex flavours.

This region is the spiritual home of Burgundian varieties in the Cape. Walker Bay, and particularly the famous Hemel-en-Aarde (Heaven and Earth) valley, is world-renowned for producing exceptionally elegant Pinot Noir and rich, mineral Chardonnay. The wines here are celebrated for their silky textures and deep sense of place, often reflecting the ancient shale and clay soils of the valley floor.

Further inland and perched at higher altitudes, the district of Elgin provides even cooler conditions. Surrounded by mountains, Elgin is famous for its world-class Sauvignon Blanc and crisp, aromatic whites that crackle with energy. From the windswept vineyards of Cape Agulhas to the high-mountain wards of the Overberg, the Cape South Coast offers a refined and elegant side of South African winemaking that is perfect for those who appreciate purity, freshness, and fine structure.
