Clynelish Distillery & Visitor Centre

Situated in the coastal town of Brora in the remote Northern Highlands, Clynelish is a distillery that produces a truly magnificent spirit with a fiercely loyal following among whisky enthusiasts. Founded in 1819, it is widely celebrated for an incredibly distinct characteristic that sets it apart from almost any other Scottish single malt: its signature waxiness.

This fascinating waxy texture is entirely natural, created during the distillation process by the specific shape and operation of their copper pot stills. It provides an incredible, mouth-coating quality that allows the liquid to carry complex flavours with remarkable grace.

As one of the designated "Four Corners of Scotland" distilleries, Clynelish plays a massive role in providing the rich, robust Highland foundation for the famous Johnnie Walker blends. However, when experienced as a standalone single malt, it is nothing short of spectacular.

A typical dram is wonderfully unpeated, offering a brilliant balance of sweet honey, crisp orchard fruit, and a distinct, slightly salty maritime influence from its coastal location. It is an incredibly rewarding whisky that bridges the gap beautifully between sweet Highland malts and rugged island spirits.
