Domaine Matrot | Meursault

Domaine Matrot is widely recognised as one of the largest and most important properties in the prestigious village of Meursault. The estate boasts some of the finest vineyard plots in the heart of Burgundy, and since the year 2000, the family has farmed the land entirely organically. This careful, chemical-free approach to the soil ensures the vines produce fruit that purely reflects the classic character of the region.

The history of the domaine is deeply rooted in family tradition. It stands as one of the oldest estate-bottlers in Burgundy, a practice that began when Joseph Matrot took the helm in 1908. From that point on, every drop of French wine has been bottled entirely on the estate rather than sold off to merchants. Today, Joseph’s grandson Thierry and his wife Pascale continue this legacy alongside their two daughters, Adèle and Elsa, keeping the entire winemaking process firmly within the family.

A key element behind the quality of these white wines is the age of the vines themselves, which average over thirty years old. While younger vines often produce large quantities of fruit, older plants naturally yield fewer grapes. This means all the energy of the vine goes into a much smaller crop, resulting in incredibly concentrated flavours and a beautifully smooth texture. It is a time-honoured approach that guarantees a highly refined glass of wine, whether you are pouring one of their renowned Meursault wines or an accessible regional Burgundy.
