The Royal Lochnagar Distillery on the edge of the Balmoral Estate in Scotland

Situated on the edge of the Balmoral Estate in the beautiful Scottish Highlands, Royal Lochnagar is a distillery deeply steeped in royal history. Founded in 1845 by John Begg, the site sits directly across the River Dee from the famous royal summer residence.

The distillery's incredible claim to fame occurred in 1848, when Begg boldly wrote to Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, inviting them to visit his operation. To his delight, they accepted. The royal couple were so highly impressed by the quality of the spirit they tasted that Queen Victoria granted the distillery a Royal Warrant just days later. From that historic moment onward, it officially became known as Royal Lochnagar.

Today, it remains one of the smallest and most traditional distilleries in Scotland. The whiskies produced here are a spectacular representation of the classic Highland single malt style. They are brilliantly balanced, highly approachable, and rich in character, offering warm notes of sweet toffee, spiced orchard fruit, and a wonderfully gentle oak finish.
