Back in 1830, a young clergyman's son named Charles Tanqueray decided against following the family tradition. Instead, he set up a vine-draped distillery in the Bloomsbury district of London and began experimenting with the world's finest botanicals. After years of meticulous trial and error, he perfected the brilliantly balanced recipe that we still enjoy today.
The classic Tanqueray London Dry is famously built on just four key botanicals: refreshing juniper, peppery coriander, aromatic angelica, and sweet liquorice. It is a wonderfully straightforward, brilliantly crisp spirit that has earned its place in bars across the globe, instantly recognisable by its iconic green bottle, beautifully shaped to resemble a classic three-part cocktail shaker.
Yet the story does not end with the original recipe. Charles left behind a detailed journal filled with over 300 pages of flavour ideas inspired by his travels. Today, those historic notes are the driving force behind the wider Tanqueray family. Whether it is the sophisticated, citrus-forward No. TEN, the sun-soaked Seville orange notes of Flor de Sevilla, or the zesty kick of Rangpur lime, there is an expression to suit every palate and elevate every cocktail.
