Côtes de Bordeaux Vineyards

The Côtes de Bordeaux represents 14% of the total production of Bordeaux wines and covers an area of 12600 hectares and has some 1500 winegrowers; the region is divided into four ‘terroirs’: Blaye, Cadillac, Castillon and Francs.

Located on the right bank of two rivers, the Garonne and the Dordogne, and on hillside vineyards, the Côtes de Bordeaux vines enjoy ideal sunny conditions for the production of quality wines.  Red wines account for 97% of the production and the Merlot grape dominates the majority of these wines.

The best growers in the less fashionable regions of the Côtes de Bordeaux such as Blaye, Bourg and Castillon, generally have to work that bit harder to get their wines noticed, however, as a consequence the quality of their endeavours is rewarded by wines of very high quality yet with prices that remain sensible in comparison to the Cru Classe of the Médoc.
