ZWEIGELT

Organic vines in vineyard with grass and crop cover

Zweigelt is a red wine grape that was developed in 1922 when an Austrian scientist, Fritz Zweigelt, crossed St. Laurent with Blaufränkisch . The grape was originally called "Rotburger" but the name was changed to honour its creator. It is one of the most widely planted red wine grapes varieties in Austria. The wine styles range from easy-drinking (bottled young, unoaked) to structured, fleshy wines that have received barrel ageing.
