Operating from a relatively modern cellar situated on the western edge of the village of Chablis, the Collet family manages an impressive 37 hectares of pristine vineyard sites. They are fortunate to own some of the finest land in the entire region, with holdings spanning accessible Petit Chablis and village-level Chablis, right through to celebrated Premier Cru sites such as Montée de Tonerre, Mont de Milieu, Montmains, and Vaillons. The estate's crown jewels are their exceptional plots within the Valmur and Les Clos Grand Cru vineyards, providing a world-class foundation for their wines.
The family's roots in the region stretch back to 1792, with generation after generation working the local soils. However, the modern domaine takes its name from Jean Collet, who began independently working a modest holding of just 61 ares of vines in 1952. Prior to Jean's tenure, all the wine produced by his ancestors was sold in bulk to local négociants. He proudly bottled the estate's very first independent vintage in 1954 and achieved his first international export to the United States a mere five years later.
Today, Domaine Jean Collet represents a brilliant continuation of this familial dedication. Jean was joined in 1979 by his son, Gilles, and his wife Dominique, who continue to guide the domaine alongside the latest generation, Romain, who brought his own expertise to the family business in 2008. Together, they harness their historic vineyard holdings to produce expressive, beautifully defined wines that capture the distinct mineral character and energy of classic Chablis, alongside crafting a wonderfully textured Crémant de Bourgogne that brilliantly showcases the versatility of their pristine fruit.
