CHABLIS

Located in a cool, northern pocket of Burgundy, Chablis is famous for producing some of the world’s most refreshing white wine. While it is made entirely from Chardonnay, it tastes completely different from the richer styles found further south. Because most producers here avoid using oak barrels, the wine keeps its bright, zesty character and its famous "stony" finish.

The secret to Chablis lies in the soil. Millions of years ago, this region was under the sea, leaving behind a landscape packed with ancient seashells and limestone. This is what gives the wine its unmistakable "snap"—a mouth-watering, citrusy freshness often described as "oyster-shell" or "flinty." It is the ultimate companion for fresh seafood, light salads, or simply enjoyed as a crisp aperitif.

Understanding the range is straightforward, as the region is divided into four clear levels. Petit Chablis and Chablis offer great every-day drinking with plenty of zing. Moving up to the Premier Cru and Grand Cru vineyards, which sit on the best sun-soaked slopes, you’ll find more intensity, depth, and a complexity that can age beautifully for years.
