Can Sumoi Xarel-lo 2024
Can Sumoi Xarel-lo is a stunning natural white wine produced at one of the highest estates in the Penedès region of Spain. Winemakers Pepe Raventós and Francesc Escala firmly believed that the native Xarel-lo grape had immense potential far beyond its traditional role in sparkling wine. To prove it, they sought out high-altitude vineyards and applied strict biodynamic farming methods to let the grape speak entirely for itself. The approach in the winery is completely hands-off, relying on minimal intervention to preserve the natural energy of the site. In the glass, it pours beautifully and opens with delicate, fragrant aromas of fresh green apple, ripe pear, and a very light savoury edge. On the palate, it is wonderfully textural and complex. You get distinct nutty and herbal notes that are instantly lifted by a perfectly balanced natural acidity, driving through to a brilliantly long and refreshing finish. Because of its gorgeous texture and herbal depth, this organic Spanish white wine is incredibly versatile on the dining table. It is an outstanding match for a classic roasted vegetable paella, fresh grilled sardines, or a simple board of hard sheep’s milk cheese.
