Mucchietto IGT Primitivo del Salento, produced by the Pasqua family, is a wonderfully rich and generous Italian red wine from the sun-drenched region of Puglia in southern Italy. Made entirely from the native Primitivo grape, it captures the incredible warmth of the Italian south, delivering a brilliantly bold and fruit-forward style. Pouring a deep ruby in the glass, it opens with inviting aromas of fresh red cherry layered with a gentle hint of sweet spice. On the palate, it is absolutely crammed with flavour. You get a massive surge of juicy dark plum and ripe blueberries, wrapped up in comforting notes of cinnamon, smooth vanilla, and a touch of dark chocolate. Despite all that rich, concentrated fruit, it never feels heavy. Velvety tannins provide a beautiful, soft structure, while an uplifting, fresh finish brings perfect balance to the wine. Because of its juicy fruit and soft spice, this versatile red wine is a superb match for rich tomato-based dishes. It is absolutely fantastic alongside a classic spaghetti bolognese, a wood-fired pepperoni pizza, or a hearty aubergine parmigiana.
