Clonakilty Galley Head Bourbon Cask Irish Whiskey
When the distillers at Clonakilty wanted to create an approachable pouring whiskey that still packed plenty of character, they looked out of their warehouse windows for inspiration. Just across the bay, rising out of the wild Atlantic Ocean, stands the historic Galley Head lighthouse. This iconic local landmark gave its name to a truly brilliant, everyday spirit. The Galley Head expression is crafted with absolute care on the rugged West Cork coast. For this release, the liquid has spent time maturing in carefully selected ex-bourbon barrels. Resting right on the edge of the ocean cliffs, the whiskey gently breathes in the fresh, salt-laden sea air, adding a subtle maritime softness that you just cannot find in an inland spirit. Pour a dram and you are met with deeply inviting aromas of rich cocoa and sweet summer fruits. On the palate, it is incredibly silky and smooth. It delivers gorgeous waves of dark chocolate, ripe red berries, and sweet liquorice, before melting into a long, warming finish full of gentle oak spice. It is a remarkably versatile whiskey that is completely unpeated and very easy to drink. It shines wonderfully when sipped neat over a chunk of ice, but it also has more than enough flavour to build a spectacular highball or classic cocktail.
