Quintodecimo Terra d'Eclano Aglianico 2023
Quintodecimo Terra d'Eclano is a wonderfully rich and engaging Italian red wine crafted in the sunlit hills of Campania. Made entirely from the Aglianico grape, which is often celebrated as one of the finest red varieties in southern Italy, this bottle beautifully captures the warmth and energy of its mountainous home. The vines are grown on elevated slopes where they soak up the daytime sun before cooling down in the fresh evening breeze, allowing the grapes to develop incredibly deep flavours while keeping a lively, natural freshness. In the cellar, the wine is matured carefully in French oak for up to a year, a gentle process that softens the natural power of the grape and adds a lovely layer of sweet spice without masking the fruit. In the glass, it pours a strikingly deep ruby red, opening with an inviting perfume of crushed woodland berries, warm vanilla, and a touch of black pepper. Every sip is incredibly smooth and deeply satisfying, delivering generous waves of ripe dark plum and wild blackberry, all held together by very soft tannins and a long, warming finish.Because it is so wonderfully rich and fruit driven, this is a brilliant bottle to open for a relaxed weekend dinner or a special evening in. While it has the structure to age beautifully in the cellar, it is already wonderfully smooth and ready to enjoy right now. It makes a fantastic partner for comforting, flavour packed food. Pour a generous glass alongside a slow roasted shoulder of lamb, a rich beef and ale stew, or a hearty tomato and sausage pasta bake.
