Wiston Estate Rosé 2018
Wiston Estate Rosé 2018 is a spectacular vintage release that captures one of the most legendary growing seasons in British winemaking history. The year began with the freezing 'Beast from the East', but a sudden four-week window of flawless weather around flowering allowed the vines to produce an incredibly bountiful crop with exceptional ripeness. To handle such outstanding fruit, the winemaking team bypassed Chardonnay entirely, focusing instead on a rich blend of eighty percent Pinot Noir and twenty percent Pinot Meunier. The whole bunches were gently pressed using a traditional Coquard press, and the juice was fermented in old French oak barrels for nine months to build texture before resting on its lees for four to five years. Pouring a vivid, striking dark pink, this is a dramatic and highly expressive wine. The aromas immediately jump out, offering enticing notes of dark cherry, wild rosehip, and blood orange. When you take a sip, it is gloriously opulent and rich, balancing the bold red fruit with complex layers of warm brioche and a subtle hint of marzipan on the remarkably dry, spicy finish. Because of its intense red fruit profile and serious depth, this opulent sparkling rosé easily stands up to rich, savoury food. It pairs brilliantly with smoked duck breast, a generous board of rustic charcuterie, or toasted bruschetta.
