Wiston Estate Blanc de Blancs NV
Set in the rolling South Downs of West Sussex, the Wiston Estate rests on a deep seam of pure white chalk. This exact soil profile runs straight under the English Channel and into the heart of France, giving the homegrown Chardonnay vines everything they need to thrive. The resulting Wiston Estate Blanc de Blancs captures the essence of the English countryside, delivering piercingly fresh green apple and zesty citrus flavours that instantly wake up the palate and bring a true sense of occasion to the glass. Because it is made entirely from white grapes, this style of English sparkling wine is famous for its bright, uplifting energy. Following the traditional method, the wine spends years resting quietly in the cellar before release. This patient ageing process is the secret behind the incredibly smooth, persistent bubbles and the rich, comforting aromas of freshly baked pastries and toasted almonds that balance out the zesty fruit. It is a wonderfully elegant pour that drinks beautifully on its own or served alongside a classic British fish and chips supper. The Goring family has farmed this land since the eighteenth century, maintaining an approach to winemaking that remains beautifully hands-on. At the heart of the winery sits a rare, vintage press originally built in the 1950s, ensuring only the purest, most delicate juice makes it into the bottle. The result is a world-class Sussex sparkling wine that famously stood as one of the late Queen Elizabeth's absolute favourite pours.
