Hundred Hills Preamble No.2 2021
This exceptional release from Hundred Hills shows exactly why high-quality boutique English sparkling wine is rivaling the finest bottles from across the Channel. Tucked away on a steep, chalk-rich slope in Oxfordshire, the family-run estate focuses entirely on low-yield, single-vintage production. The Hundred Hills Preamble No. 2 2021 is a meticulous blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir harvested from a specific sunny block known as the Winery Bank. The grapes enjoy a unique microclimate sheltered by deep chalk hills, allowing the fruit to ripen slowly and develop intense, clean flavors. After spending three years aging on its yeast lees in the cool stone cellars, this premium fizz has developed a beautifully smooth, fine mousse and a silky texture on the palate. It pours a brilliant pale gold, releasing vibrant aromas of ripe pear, crisp yellow apple, and lemon curd, layered with a comforting hint of freshly baked pastry. It is wonderfully bright and refreshing, making it an excellent partner for food. It cuts through the richness of classic British fish and chips perfectly, but it is just as delicious alongside a roast chicken dinner or a creamy risotto.
