Wiston Estate Cuvée 2020
The Wiston Estate 2020 Cuvée is a landmark release for this respected West Sussex producer, capturing one of the most memorable growing seasons in recent British history. While the world locked down that spring, the Findon Park Vineyard basked in unusually warm, unbroken sunshine throughout April and May. Those exceptional conditions kept the frost at bay and allowed the fruit to hang on the vines far longer than usual, achieving a level of perfect, unhurried ripeness before the harvest. Bringing together the classic blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier, the winemaking team has produced a wonderfully elegant English sparkling wine that genuinely reflects the warmth of that year. The extended hang time brings a superb concentration of flavour, leading with bright, linear citrus and distinct notes of fresh grapefruit and rich lemon posset. A subtle touch of oak ageing rounds out the profile, adding a gentle hint of spice and fresh almonds that carries right through the long, refined finish. Because of its vibrant energy and complex depth, this vintage release can cut through rich, savoury dishes effortlessly. It pairs remarkably well with pan-roasted halibut, a classic smoked salmon blini, or a generous bowl of salted Marcona almonds.
