Biddenden Gribble Bridge Dornfelder 2024
Biddenden Gribble Bridge Dornfelder is a wonderfully bright and juicy English red wine crafted by the oldest commercial vineyard in Kent. While Britain is famous for its sparkling bottles, this historic family estate has spent decades perfecting their still wines. Using the Dornfelder grape, which thrives in the gentle, cool climate of the Kentish countryside, the vineyard manages to capture a remarkable depth of colour and vibrant fruit character. Grown on sheltered, sunlit slopes, the vines produce beautifully ripe fruit that is packed with natural energy and freshness. In the cellar, the wine is fermented entirely in stainless steel tanks, purposefully avoiding oak to keep the pure, natural berry flavours completely front and centre. In the glass, it pours a strikingly deep ruby red, opening with an inviting perfume of wild hedgerow berries and ripe plum. Every sip is wonderfully smooth and light on its feet, delivering generous waves of juicy black cherry and fresh blackberry, all backed by incredibly soft tannins and a clean, mouth-watering finish. Because it is so wonderfully fruit driven and light, this is a brilliant bottle to enjoy slightly chilled during the warmer months, or served just below room temperature on a cosy evening. It is an incredibly versatile partner for relaxed dining. Pour a glass alongside a classic British ploughmans lunch, a generous board of cured meats, or a rich roasted vegetable tart.
