Lismore Cape South Coast Chardonnay 2022
Lismore Cape South Coast Chardonnay is a breathtaking, elegantly crafted South African white wine from one of the most exciting wine regions in the country. Created by pioneer winemaker Samantha O'Keefe, the estate sits high in the rugged foothills of the Sonderend Mountains within the famously cool Cape South Coast. The vines here are frequently blanketed in thick morning mist and chilled by sharp ocean breezes. This dramatic, unpredictable weather slows down the ripening of the Chardonnay grapes, allowing them to build an incredible depth of flavour while holding onto a brilliant, thirst-quenching freshness. In the cellar, the grapes are gently pressed and fermented in carefully selected French oak barrels. Rather than masking the pure fruit, this patient resting time simply adds a luxurious texture and weaves a beautiful layer of subtle spice into the wine. In the glass, it opens with a highly fragrant perfume of delicate white blossom, crisp lemon, and crushed stones. Every sip is silky and beautifully rounded, delivering generous waves of ripe white peach, baked apple, and zesty citrus, all backed by a savoury hint of toasted almond and a clean, lingering finish. While it is undeniably elegant enough to enjoy on its own, this is an absolutely spectacular bottle to bring to the dining table. Serve it nicely chilled straight from the fridge to really allow that vibrant acidity and rich fruit to shine. It makes a magnificent partner for rich poultry and fresh seafood—pair a bottle with a classic roast chicken in a creamy tarragon sauce, pan-fried scallops in garlic butter, or a generous wedge of creamy British Brie.
