Domaine des Bosquets 'Le Plateau' Gigondas 2021
The Domaine des Bosquets Le Plateau is an outstanding red wine made entirely from the Mourvèdre grape. Sourced from a single plot of vines that are over sixty years old, it represents a completely different side of the Gigondas region. While this grape is most famous for producing the bold, highly prized wines of Bandol down on the southern coast, Julien Bréchet has proved it also thrives perfectly on his mountain soils. The result is a deeply concentrated and highly sought-after release that is renowned for its incredible power and finesse. Pouring a glass reveals a wonderfully dark and intense profile. Expect a huge mouthful of ripe blackberries and dark plums, mixed with the savoury scent of wild herbs, baking spices, and a touch of dark chocolate. Despite the huge concentration of fruit flavours, the wine feels brilliantly smooth and perfectly balanced. The finish is incredibly long, leaving you with a clean, polished taste that never feels heavy or harsh. This is a fantastic bottle to open for a special weekend dinner.
