Domaine de la Rochelierre Fitou Tradition 2023
The Domaine de la Rochelierre Tradition is a brilliantly expressive Fitou red wine that brings the wild, sun-drenched character of the Mediterranean coast straight to the dining table. Crafted by the passionate husband-and-wife team of Jean-Marie and Emilie Fabre, this highly approachable bottle offers an authentic taste of southern France. It is wonderfully rich and fruit-forward, perfectly capturing the rustic charm of the region without ever feeling heavy or overwhelming on the palate. To create such a lively and balanced profile, the estate carefully blends classic local grape varieties - predominantly Carignan and Grenache - grown on deep clay and limestone soils. The family employs a highly specific method of natural farming, ploughing the earth extensively to force the vine roots deep underground. This protects the grapes from the intense summer heat, allowing them to ripen steadily while retaining a crucial freshness. Once in the cellar, the wine is crafted entirely without oak ageing to ensure the bright, energetic fruit flavours remain completely unmasked. In the glass, this generous Languedoc red wine opens with inviting aromas of dark blackberry and crushed plum, followed closely by the distinctive scent of wild rosemary and thyme from the surrounding coastal hills. The finish is remarkably smooth and gently spiced with a crack of black pepper. It is a fantastic choice for hearty dining, effortlessly complementing a slow-cooked beef stew, roasted lamb chops, or a rich, heavily seasoned sausage casserole.
