Domaine Lafage La Retro 2024

The Domaine Lafage La Retro is a brilliant, unpretentious homage to the old-school table wines that were once a staple of everyday life in southern France. Breaking away from standard sizing, this exceptionally fun Roussillon red wine is presented in a generous one litre bottle adorned with a vintage-inspired label. It is designed to be placed in the centre of the table and shared freely among friends, perfectly capturing the relaxed, welcoming spirit of the Mediterranean coast. To create this wonderfully thirst-quenching style, the winemaking team has crafted a traditional field blend, relying primarily on Syrah and Grenache alongside a splash of Carignan, Grenache Gris and Lledoner Pelut. The grapes are harvested from old vines and vinified with a deliberately light touch to capture the absolute maximum amount of fresh, vibrant fruit. Unlike the heavier, more structured styles of the region, this French red wine is beautifully light-footed and is actually best enjoyed when served slightly chilled straight from the fridge, particularly on a warm afternoon. In the glass, it is incredibly juicy and energetic, bursting with bright flavours of crushed raspberries, red cherries, and wild strawberries. There is a lovely, crisp acidity that keeps every sip refreshing, with barely a hint of heavy tannin in sight. It is the ultimate crowd-pleasing bottle for a weekend barbecue, a relaxed pizza night, or simply enjoying by the glass on the terrace as the sun goes down.
