Château Perron Lalande-de-Pomerol 2022
Crafted from vines growing in the iron-rich clay and sandy gravel around the commune of Néac, the Château Perron Grand Vin is a masterful expression of the Lalande-de-Pomerol appellation. The Massonie family carefully selects the finest fruit from their oldest plots to create a deeply concentrated red wine that completely captures the character of these historic soils. Pouring a brilliant dark ruby, the aroma immediately reveals intense layers of crushed blackberry, ripe plum, and a touch of wild earth. The wine is built around a dominant core of Merlot (80%), perfectly supported by equal touches of Cabernet Franc (10%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (10%). This precise blend ensures the rich, velvety texture of the Merlot is beautifully balanced by a fresh, lively structure. Extended time resting in French oak barrels softens the edges, bringing forward darker notes of roasted coffee bean, dark chocolate, and subtle woodland spices. Such a bold and elegantly structured French red wine demands equally robust food to match its intensity. The rich tannin structure cuts beautifully through slow-cooked meats and savoury gravies. Try serving it alongside a classic beef Wellington, a rich venison casserole, or a generous cut of roast beef with all the trimmings.
