Domaine François Carillon La Bergerie 2022
Formerly known as Cap au Sud, La Bergerie represents the continuation of Domaine François Carillon’s highly successful project in the south of France. This Chardonnay draws its fruit from a specific sun-drenched parcel in Montagnac, near Nîmes. While the grapes benefit from a warmer Mediterranean climate, the winemaking takes place entirely at the family domaine in Puligny-Montrachet. This unique geographical split earns the wine a Vin de France classification while retaining a distinctly Burgundian elegance and structure. In the glass, the wine opens with an intense, slightly spicy nose driven by white peach and a comforting cedary richness. The palate is beautifully fleshy and textural, delivering generous layers of ripe pear alongside a bright, zesty lift of orange peel. Thanks to the careful handling in the cellar, the wine maintains a wonderful freshness, culminating in a precise and noticeably salty finish. It is an exceptional white wine that effortlessly marries southern warmth with premier winemaking techniques. The result is a highly approachable drinking experience that punches well above its weight, offering a brilliant introduction to the renowned Carillon style.
