Dr. Loosen Bernkasteler Lay Riesling Kabinett 2024/25
Dr Loosen Bernkasteler Lay Riesling Kabinett is a classic expression of traditional, low-alcohol winemaking from one of the estate's most distinctive grand cru sites. The vineyard sits directly along the banks of the Mosel river on deep, weathered blue slate soils that excel at retaining the day's heat. The grapes are carefully selected by hand early in the harvest to preserve their precise delicacy, followed by cool fermentation in a combination of stainless steel tanks and traditional wooden Fuder barrels. The nose opens with beautiful aromas of white peach, green apple, and fresh mint, layered with a subtle herbal spiciness and a clear hint of wet slate minerality. On the palate, the wine delivers a supple, texturally rich mouthfeel where the natural, juicy sweetness of the fruit is brilliantly countered by a clean, racy spine of acidity, leaving a beautifully refreshing impression. This delicate balance makes it a thoroughly engaging glass to sit and savour on a warm afternoon without food. Should you choose to serve it with a meal, its subtle sweetness acts as a perfect foil to slightly spicy Asian cuisine, a mild aromatic curry, or fresh goat's cheese.
