Donnafugata Vigna di Grabi 2024
Donnafugata Vigna di Gabri is a deeply personal and beautifully elegant Italian white wine from the Contessa Entellina estate in south-west Sicily. The wine takes its name from Gabriella, who founded Donnafugata alongside her husband Giacomo. She was absolutely convinced of the brilliant, full-flavoured potential of the native Ansonica grape, and created this specific cru to showcase just how good it could be. To build the wine's unique personality, the Ansonica is blended with a careful selection of Chardonnay, Viognier, Catarratto, and Sauvignon Blanc. Most of the wine matures in cement vats to keep the fruit incredibly pure, while a small portion rests on its lees in French oak barrels to add a lovely layer of texture and weight before it is finally bottled. In the glass, it pours a bright straw yellow with light green reflections. The aromas are classic and inviting, offering up fresh white peach alongside delicate floral notes of elderflower and wild meadow flowers. On the palate, it is incredibly fine and elegant, driven by a vibrant, savoury streak that brings fantastic energy and surprising longevity to the finish. With its elegant texture and fresh savoury edge, this Sicilian white wine is a brilliant partner for seafood. It is an outstanding match for roasted sea bream, a rich crab linguine, or a classic seafood risotto.
