Protero 'Aromatico' 2024
Protero Aromatico is a wonderfully fragrant and vibrant Australian white wine crafted in the cool, elevated vineyards of the Adelaide Hills. Made by celebrated winemaker Stephen Pannell, this brilliant bottle draws its inspiration straight from the crisp, highly perfumed white blends of northern Italy. By carefully bringing together Gewürztraminer, Riesling, and a tiny splash of Sauvignon Blanc, the winemaking team has created a beautifully balanced wine that captures both immense flavour and brilliant, mouth-watering freshness. In the cellar, the different parcels of fruit are gently pressed and fermented together in cool tanks to lock in all of that energetic, fruit-driven character. In the glass, it leaps out with an exotic nose of sweet lychee, fresh lemongrass, and delicate rosewater. Every sip is silky and generous, delivering waves of ripe melon, white peach, and zesty pink grapefruit. A tiny hint of warming ginger spice adds brilliant complexity before finishing with a clean, crisp snap of citrus that leaves the palate completely refreshed. Thanks to its natural aromatic intensity and slight spicy edge, this is an absolutely spectacular bottle to pair with food that carries a bit of heat. Serve it chilled straight from the fridge alongside a fragrant Thai green curry, spicy chilli prawns, or a vibrant, herb-packed Southeast Asian noodle salad.
