Fortunate Son The Dreamer 2018
Fortunate Son The Dreamer red wine is Jayson Woodbridge’s blockbuster Cabernet Sauvignon, produced from a near-mythical pocket of St. Helena. The entire character of this bottling hinges on a hidden vineyard of ninety-year-old vines running directly alongside the legendary Few and Far Between estate. These centenarian plants yield tiny, intensely concentrated berries, naturally enriched by a small handful of mysterious heritage red varieties that were interplanted in the very same soil a century ago. To handle the fruits immense power, the wine undergoes an astonishing thirty-five months maturing in custom-made new French oak barrels. This extended three-year sleep wraps the concentrated dark fruit in a seamless, velvety frame. On the nose it opens with aromas of rich cassis, dark chocolate, and redcurrant preserves, balanced by a fresh streak of mint and crushed granite. On the palate, liquid silk tannins glide across the tongue before delivering an incredibly long, spicy finish. It is an extraordinary luxury red built for pure indulgence and a prime cut of beef.
