Los Vascos Cañetén 2022
Cañetén is a prestigious landmark release that marks a major milestone for Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) at their Viña Los Vascos estate. Sourced from the exclusive La Aguina vineyard - the coolest, windiest, and most fog-influenced sector of the valley - this flagship blend is crafted from eight precise hillside parcels where native coastal flora and complex soils create a perfect micro-terroir. The result is a wine built for those looking for immense depth, freshness, and remarkable ageing potential in their wine. The blend is led by Syrah (54%), combined with Cabernet Sauvignon (43%) and a structural Cabernet Franc (3%). To achieve its incredible layers of flavour, the wine undergoes a patient 16-month maturation process. This is split precisely to build complexity without overwhelming the fruit: 60% is aged in large 4,000-litre foudres, 26% in concrete tanks to preserve its vibrant energy, and 14% in traditional oak barrels. This masterful approach gives the wine a full-bodied, multi-dimensional texture and an exceptionally smooth, velvet-like finish.
