Reyneke Cornerstone 2024
Reyneke Cornerstone is a vibrant, organically farmed South African red wine from the breezy granite slopes of the Polkadraai Hills in Stellenbosch. Named in honour of the estate's vineyard workers, the Cornerstone project channels funds from every bottle sold directly into home ownership and higher education for the farm team and their families. Marking an exciting new cuvée for the 2024 vintage, the wine brings together Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah in a seamless partnership, marrying deep black fruit structure with plush, spicy warmth. Ripe blackcurrants, crushed blackberries, and dark plums lead the way on the palate, joined by savoury hints of wild rosemary and freshly cracked black pepper. Ageing in French oak barrels softens and rounds out the blend, wrapping all that generous dark fruit in supple, velvety tannins with a gentle touch of cedar and dark cocoa on the finish. Full of character yet wonderfully smooth from the first glass, this is a natural match for hearty meat dishes. Serve it alongside a chargrilled sirloin steak with peppercorn sauce, a classic Sunday roast rib of beef, or rosemary and garlic lamb chops.
